Oakland County Sanitary Code

The Oakland County Health Division has regulatory control over all Tattoo Shops and all personnel that are engaged in the application of tattoos and/or piercings. The Health Division is responsible for setting and enforcing standards for the locations where tattooing and piercing are being done and for the persons that are tattooing and/or piercing.

To summarize; anyone in Oakland County who is tattooing and/or piercing must meet the standards established. The location where they are operating from must be inspected at least twice a year to insure that standards are being met. Such as; records keeping, cleanliness, sterilization procedures and contaminated waste removal. The location if it meets all criteria will be licensed and such license must be displayed in an obvious manner.

Personnel practicing in Oakland County must complete a course in the Prevention and Control of Blood borne Pathogens. Certification of having passed the course will allow the person to obtain a Permit to practice in the county. This permit must also be openly displayed.
